Regina Wentworth

    Captain Mistress

from the private journal of The Wayward Wench - Regina Wentworth

Oh, my, I canno' believe what has happened! Today, her majesty herself, Queen Elizabeth, came to call upon the crew with her royal escorts. As a new crew we presented ourselves before her. Just as luck would have it, I drew the blackened stick in the morn' and was therefore Captain O'Day upon their arrival! After introductions we had to explain the role of Captain O'Day within the crew to our royal guests. The queen decided this was not a satisifactory way to run a crew and has commanded that I remain as captain! Not only this, but I am to lead the crew to the new world and acquire a cargo of tobac for her majesty and return. If we are not successful in our endeavors within the year, she will disband our crew and set us off to all corners of the world. I presented myself to the privy council who, however reluctantly, supported the Queen's decision to call me Captain. Now Lord Lester is financing our mission in hopes of seeing me fail. I can not fail my crew, my queen or God himself who has appointed her! This wench has never been much of a praying sort but I pray now for the strength and courage to do whatever it is I must to secure the future of my crew. I will not fail them! I will persevere in the eye of the storm of those who would wish to see me fail. I will show them that I truly deserve the honor and respect to be called by the title of captain if for no other reason than to protect my crew! If England can be justly ruled by a woman, why should I not be captain just because I am a woman?!!

    Who is Captain O'Day?

Black Spot Pyracy has no true captain.  Major decisions are decided upon by a core group of original founders.  Most of the time decisions are made by the group by "ayes" and "nays."  Crew members share the responsibilities and divide whatever tasks need doing.  We take turns or volunteer (willingly or otherwise!) to get things done.  So what do you do when you have to have one person stand up as the Captain?  Well, we draw straws, of course!!  The crew of the Black Spot draws straws and whoever picks the short one (or the one with the blackened end!) is thereby the Captain for the Day - be it adult, or child.  Thus, we are all victim to the perils of being leader, as well as the spoils that come with the task.  I have lovingly named this position as "Captain O' Day."
